project:

wall graphics


purpose:
introduce concept of abstraction
use simple materials to make a graphic statement
recognizing graphic design in the everyday

WEEK SIX
project:

power project logo week 2


purpose:
introduce thoughtful color choices into logos
choosing a typeface for product name

continuing to brainstorm ideas for an actual power project logo


materials:

blank paper
pencils
brainstorming template sheet (made using words that were frequently used last brainstorming session)
markers

"voting sheet" for power project fonts

WEEK FIVE

project:
power project logo

purpose:
begin to combine image and text
brainstorm ideas for an actual power project logo

materials:
blank paper
pencils
logo coloring sheets
(really easy to make... just live trace with outlines)
logo examples
serif/sans serif signs
"voting sheet" for power project fonts




concepts/skills:
defining "logo"
recognizing logos around us
serif/san serif (again)
selecting appropriate type
making a thumbnail sketch to describe a word

examples:





a test to the power of a logo? all we had to do was show the kids a piece of paper with the mcdonald's golden arches on it and they went crazy. we didn't even have any mcdonald's with us...

coloring sheets (good to have for the little ones to work on, and something to hand a kid that finishes early.)

introduce basic color theory (to aid in transition to image later)
